THE PROGRAM

What we ask

What we expect from every player in the program, whichever of the four teams he plays for.

  • Be there. Games, practice, weight room, film — all four, and none of them optional.
  • Academics first. CHSAA sets a minimum to play. We encourage more than that, and we’ll help you get there.
  • Represent the school. People see the jersey before they see you.
  • Play for the guy next to you. Set the screen, take the charge, and be the first one off the bench when a teammate scores.

Coaching staff

  • Ryan Schaefer — Varsity Head Coach
  • Deontae Fair — Varsity Assistant Coach
  • Will Granger — Varsity Assistant Coach
  • Jordan Wilson — JV Head Coach
  • Alex James — JV Assistant Coach
  • Jose Ortiz — Sophomore Head Coach
  • Ethan Owens — Freshman Head Coach

Playing for Boulder

Tryouts

Tryouts are in mid-November. There is no cost to try out. Two things have to be done before you can step on the floor.

  • Register through [link].
  • Have a current physical on file, dated after [date].

Open gym

Open gym runs Saturdays, 2:00–3:30pm in the Boulder High main gym, and is open to any Boulder High student. No cost, no commitment. If you are thinking about playing, it is the easiest way to find out what this program is like, and for us to see you play before November.

This is a handful of the programs operating in the Boulder and Denver area, not a complete list — there are many more, across every age group, and plenty of good ones are not on this page. These are listed so families have somewhere to start. Boulder High School and BVSD neither endorse nor are affiliated with any club listed here, and playing for one has no bearing on making a Boulder High team. Fees, age groups and schedules are set entirely by each club.
